DAY 2 GNW MARCH 2024 MM FEB UI

GNW MARCH 2024 MM FEB UI 2nd Day

Introduction of Batik and UI GreenMetric 2024

The Global Network Week March 2024 hosted by Universitas Indonesia continued into its second day. Participants and organizers gathered at MM UI Salemba and then departed for FEB UI Depok. The group of 4 minibuses, comprised of inbound participants from the Tanoto Foundation, UI Great, student committee, and UI academic community, departed at 8 am.

After the group arrived at FEB UI Depok, participants participated in the batik workshop. Participants were informed on the different aspects of batik, from the definition of batik to the philosophy of the diversity of batik motifs. Participants gained knowledge on how to make batik, were introduced to the use of canting, and experienced the different tools and materials for batik. The inbound participants were very enthusiastic as this was their first experience with batik.

All participants were given a piece of cloth with a motif drawn on it and a canting. They started the batik process and some of them added motifs that they thought had their own meaning.  After that, the participants were directed to color their batik. All of the participants showed their creativity in coloring the batik and created unique combinations of colors. The agenda was then closed with a group photo of all participants.

After the batik activity at the FEB UI building, the participants traveled to Kopi Klotok for ISHOMA. Participants spent approximately one hour to enjoy the dishes that had been prepared. It was quite exciting when one of the Inbound participants from Mexico liked mangosteen. At 1 pm the group departed again to the FEB UI Depok building.

All of the GNAM participants gathered in the study center hall building to attend a seminar titled “Introducing UI GreenMetric” by Dr.Junaidi, S.S., M.A.A as the Vice-chair of Program, Communication, and Partnership. The seminar discussed a university ranking published by Universitas Indonesia that is focused on promoting green campuses. The ranking evaluates and compares the performance of universities around the world in environmental sustainability efforts and green practices. Factors assessed include energy management, water management, transport, and environment-related education and research. He presented the material for approximately 1 hour and continued with a question-and-answer session. Eight participants contributed to the question-and-answer session with the speaker. One of the questions was “How does UI GreenMetric contribute to raising awareness about environmental issues among universities worldwide? How about the other communities?” At 15:30 the whole group travelled back to UI Salemba and returned to their respective residences.
